A record crowd of almost 300 fans watched the Virginia Union University softball team take on Chowan University at the VUU Softball Field on Sunday, April 14, in Richmond, Va.
Chowan came away with the wins 27-11 and 15-8 on a day which saw VUU salute
Kristina Caldwell, the lone senior on the Lady Panthers.
In the first game, VUU struggled back from 3-0 and 7-4 deficits to take an 8-7 lead. Chowan, however, mustered 13 runs in the last inning to win the game.
In the second game, VUU's
Danielle McEachern slammed a grand slam home run and had five runs batted in, but Chowan out-lasted the Lady Panthers 15-8.
The losses dropped VUU to 8-2 in the Northern Division and 15-8 overall. Chowan is 10-0 in the Northern Division and 24-21 overall.
VUU now travels to Petersburg, Va., to compete in the CIAA Softball Championships at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, at Petersburg Sports Complex.
