Caldwell & Lewis Hit Historic Homers in Double-Header Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Virginia Union University's Kristina Caldwell and Quincy Lewis became the first VUU players to hit home runs at the VUU Softball Field as the Lady Panthers swept Lincoln (Pa.) University 12-4 and 6-4 in a double-header on Saturday, March 23, in Richmond, Va.

Caldwell lined a 1-0 pitch over the left field fence to lead off the second inning for the Lady Panthers.  Later in the inning, Lewis homered to dead center-field to become the first VUU player to have a multi-run homer.

Lewis picked up the win, striking out eight over five innings of work.  The game was called with two-out in the bottom of the fifth inning once VUU reached an eight-run lead.  CIAA  rules calls for the game to be ended after five innings if a team is leading by eight runs or more.

In the second game, VUU's Shireese Borden slammed a two-run home run as Virginia Union fought back from a 4-0 deficit to take a 6-4 win.  Borden had three RBIs in the win.

Lewis also picked up the win in the second game.

The wins raised VUU's record to 5-4 overall and in the CIAA.  Lincoln fell to 3-10 overall and 1-8 in the CIAA.

Virginia Union now plays Bowie State University at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 24, at the VUU Softball Field in Richmond, Va.
