Virginia Union University men's tennis team was swept by Shaw University 7-0 and 7-0 in the Panthers' season-opening matches, held on Friday, February 15, at the CIAA Tennis Round-Up in Raleigh, N.C.
The rest of the matches, scheduled for Saturday, February 16, were canceled due to inclement weather.
In the first match, VUU's
Jarvis Rideau and
Jaymes Berry were defeated 6-0, 6-1. Virginia Unions
Terrence Malone,
Charles Sheets and
David Taylor were defeated in their single matches 6-0, 6-0.
Shaw also defeated the doubles team of Redeau/Berry 8-1 and then sealed the win with an 8-2 win over the doubles team of Sheets/Malone.
In the second match, Malone was defeated 6-0, 7-5, while the rest of the VUU men's team was swept 6-0, 6-0.
VUU is now 0-2 on the season and 0-2 in CIAA play.
The men's tennis team now travels to Lynchburg, Va., to face Randolph College at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20.
