Nathan Cannady, who played men's basketball for Virginia Union University and later became coach of the Lady Panthers women's basketball team, has been named to the VUU Athletic Hall of Fame.  Cannady will be inducted in the VUU Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 6, 2012.

As a freshman,Coach Tom Harris named Nate Cannady co-captain along with Union's greatest player Mike Davis,showing his leadership qualities even as a first year player.Cannady immediately made an impact on that team averaging double figures in both points and leading the team in rebounds.Cannady,playing alongside future Tom Harris Hall of Famers,Arthur "Butch" Niles and Mike Davis helped a short-handed team to a third place finish in the 1968 CIAA tournament.

As a Panther Player at Union, Cannady achieved many honors, among these honors include:

• Panther Team captain for four years
• Panther Leading scorer and rebounder for three years averaging over 20 points per game and 14 rebounds per game over his four-year career
• 1972 All-CIAA conference team
• 3 time All N.A.I.A Team
• 3 time All-Virginia Team
• MVP for the Norfolk State Christmas Tournament (1970)
• Leading Scorer 1972 CIAA Tournament
• Drafted by the Carolina Cougars of the ABA
• 2008 voted as one of the top 100 best ball players from the Washington, DC area .
• As the Lady Panther's Coach, his teams won CIAA regular season championship in1979-80
• Second place finish in the AIAW Virginia State championship to Old Dominion
• Coached Virginia Union women's basketball team from 1976 to1980
• Compiled winning records in each of his years as Head Coach
• Named CIAA coach of the year 1977 and 1980
• Coached three Va. Union Hall of Fame Players
