Bluefield, W.V. — January 21, 2026 — The Virginia Union University men's basketball team dropped a CIAA road contest to Bluefield State University, 75-57, Wednesday evening in Bluefield, West Virginia.
Bluefield State controlled the tempo early, taking a 37-23 lead into halftime, and continued to apply pressure in the second half to secure the 18-point victory. The Big Blue shot efficiently from the field and limited Virginia Union's offensive rhythm throughout the contest.
Virginia Union was led by
Bobby Gardner with 11 points, while
O'Maundre Harris finished with 10 points. Despite defensive stretches in the second half, the Panthers were unable to close the gap.
"Bluefield State came out and played a great game," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "They beat us in all phases of the game for 40 minutes. We must be more consistent from one game to the next. We will go back to work and get ready for Bowie State at the Barco."
With the result, Virginia Union moves to 16-3 overall and 5-2 in CIAA play, while Bluefield State improves to 7-11 overall and 6-3 in conference action.
