Renesha Chiles slammed two home runs and drove in a school-record seven runs, but Virginia State University edged VUU 12-11 in a 13-inning softball game on Tuesday, April 3, in Petersburg, Va.
Chiles' first home run came in the fifth inning and then Chiles homered again in the top of the 13th inning.
VUU's
Quincy Lewis set a school-record by pitching 12.2 innings, despite battling dehydration. Lewis faced a school-record 65 batters in the marathon.
The 13-inning affair was also the longest game in VUU softball history.
After the opener concluded, Virginia State defeated the Lady Panthers 13-10 in a normal seven-inning game. VUU's
Charisma Spencer took the loss.
Chiles drove in four more runs in the night-cap, giving her 11 RBIs for the day.
VUU now travels to Murfreesboro, N.C., to face Chowan University in a double-header on Friday, April 6.
