Virginia Union University's Rachel Washington lined a single into center field with two out in the seventh inning to lift VUU to a 20-19 win over Washington Adventist University in the Lady Panthers' senior day, held on Tuesday, April 10, at Parker Field in Richmond, Va.
Washington's single capped a two-run comeback for the Lady Panthers, who had entered the inning trailing 19-18.
VUU's
Shermanda Fambro and
Demi Schrader led off the inning with singles. After Chantey Mack came in to run for Schrader,
Shakia Mackey grounded into a third-to-first double play. VUU's
Danielle McEachern reached on an error by the Shock second baseman, advancing to second and scoring Mack to tie the score at 19-19. Washington then followed with her game-winning hit.
In the nightcap, VUU was held to six hits as WAU outlasted the Lady Panthers 11-2 in five innings.
