Virginia Union University's Shakia Mackey slammed a home run and drove in three runs as the Lady Panthers downed Saint Augustine's College 6-3 on the opening day of the 2011 CIAA Softball Round-up at Walnut Creek Park in Raleigh, N.C., on March 12.

VUU's Renesha Chiles struck out five in four innings of work while teammate Kara Scott slammed a two-run homer.

On the day, Virginia Union finished with one win and two losses, with Shaw University stopping the Lady Panthers 22-2 and Winston-Salem State University downing VUU 11-3.

Virginia Union is now 4-7 overall and 2-4 in the CIAA.

VUU will continue play in the CIAA Softball Round-Up on March 13 in Raleigh, N.C.
