Vicki Collier scored 16 of her 22 points in the second half to deal Mount Olive College its first home loss of the season 79-71 in Mount Olive, N.C., on Saturday, December 17.
The visiting Lady Panthers closed the first half on a 13-0 run to take a 38-26 lead into the locker room at intermission. The lead grew to as much as 18 before the Trojans mounted a comeback.
The Lady Panthers were led by
Vicki Collier with 22 points, including 16 in the second half. She added nine rebounds and three assists.
Dashia Chandler added 14 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
Ashle Freeman and
Danielle Ferguson contributed 13 and 10 points respectively, coming off the bench. Freeman added seven steals.
Mount Olive was led by Alyssa Luebs' 17 points.
The win raised VUU's record to 3-5 on the season, equalling the total number of wins from the entire 2010-11 season. Mount Olive fell to 4-3.
Virginia Union now trave to Winston-Salem, N.C., to face Winston-Salem State University on Saturday, January 7, in their CIAA opener at 5:30 p.m.
