Box Score ST. THOMAS, USVI –
Virginia Union University men's basketball continued its strong early-season form with a decisive 70–52 victory over Wilberforce University on Friday. The win moves the Panthers to 9
–1 overall, marking another dominant defensive performance paired with efficient scoring across the roster.
VUU controlled the game from the opening tip, taking a 39–18 lead into halftime behind disciplined half-court execution and relentless rebounding. The Panthers finished with a
38–24 edge on the boards, including 12 offensive rebounds that led to 11 second-chance points.
Malachi Dark delivered one of the game's top performances, scoring
18 points on 7-of-10 shooting while adding four rebounds and three steals in 25 minutes.
Elijah Scranton grabbed
11 rebounds, providing consistent interior presence on both ends.
Noah Richardson-Keys and
O'Maundre Harris each scored 10 points in the win.
VUU's defense was again a defining factor. The Panthers held Wilberforce to just
26 percent shooting in the first half and 17 made field goals for the game. Virginia Union forced
19 turnovers, converting them into 17 points and preventing the Bulldogs from developing any sustained offensive rhythm.
"We got off to a strong start and defended at a high level, which always puts us in a good position to win," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "Malachi did a great job establishing himself in the post, and Noah continues to be consistent attacking the basket. This was a good team win heading into the championship game tomorrow against Dillard University."
With the win, the Panthers maintain their momentum heading deeper into December competition.
Virginia Union will play Dillard University on Saturday, December 13, at 11 a.m. for the championship of the YES HBCU Classic in St. Thomas, USVI.
