The Virginia Union University Lady Panthers bowling team showed impressive performance at the CIAA Event 2, held this past weekend in Midlothian, Va. Led by standout player
Kiara Powell, the team finished with a solid record of 7 wins and 5 losses, further proving their skill and determination on the lanes.
Kiara Powell's Stellar Performance
Kiara Powell, who has consistently been a key player for the Lady Panthers, impressed once again with her outstanding performance. Powell averaged 173 across all games and earned a special recognition for her impressive high game of 232. This achievement secured her a plaque for the highest game in the Northern Division—further highlighting her individual talent and contribution to the team's overall success.
Coach James Washington Reflects on the Weekend
Head Coach
James Washington expressed pride in his team's resilience and improvement. "The girls bowled really well this weekend. We just need to figure out a way to win against Bowie State," Coach Washington shared. "What I was most proud of was how they responded in the match against Virginia State. We were down by 40 pins going into the last game of baker, and after a team meeting before the game, the ladies came out with their best baker game of the day—a 213—and won the match by 40 pins. This shows me their capabilities when they stay focused."
Coach Washington's remarks underscore the Lady Panthers' potential to overcome challenges and maintain a strong team dynamic. "We now have some momentum going into the round-up next month in Fayetteville," he added, looking ahead to the team's next challenge.
Looking Ahead to the CIAA Roundup
The Lady Panthers are gearing up for their next big event—the CIAA Roundup, which will take place February 21-23 at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, N.C. The team is focused on building momentum from their recent success and hopes to carry it forward as they prepare for the next round of competition.
