The Virginia Union Lady Panther's bowling team took to the lanes for the CIAA Round-up in Fayetteville this past weekend. The ladies entered the tournament hoping to defend their round- up title from last year. Despite bowling well they fell short of their goal finishing 3rd with a record of 7 wins and 3 losses.
The team was led by
Alexis Jackson who had the high game for the North division with a 256 and her average of 194 placed her 6th overall. But the surprise of the weekend was
Jkaiya Pope who was voted MVP for the team. Jkaiya bowled over her average 5 of the six individual games She was also clutch in the baker matches as well. There were many highlights for the team over the weekend but the greatest was the win over South Division Leader Fayetteville State on their home lanes, For the second year in a row the lady Panthers were able to give Fayetteville their first conference loss of the season.
"The young ladies bowled great this weekend. I was very proud of them," said VUU Head Bowling Coach
James Washington. " They really showed what they are capable of as we get ready for the last conference meet at Bowie, March 15th -17th. You could really see the confidence starting to grow. I think this weekend showed the ladies what they can do when we get to championships We are not as strong as we were last season but make no mistake, we will be ready to compete for the championship, especially since we will be at home."
