Golf Finishes 11th at 8th Annual Griffin Invitational

The Griffin Invitational was played at The Mission Inn and Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida on Monday and Tuesday, September 16th, and 17th, 2024. The Invitational was contested over 54 holes and in honor of Griffin Clark.

On July 4th, 2016, Griffin Clark passed away in a car accident just a mile away from his home in Virginia. He was 21 years old and at what seemed to be the peak of his life, only to have it cut short. Clark was a redshirt sophomore on the men's golf team where he helped the Saint Leo Lions win their first ever-National championship. Clark's winning match up against Chico State's Kelley Sullivan sealed the victory for Saint Leo University its first national title in any sport.

VUU finished 11th with a team score of 904 (307/290/307). Team scoring was led by 1st Term Grad Students – Joseph Graham Tied 10th with a score of 216 (74/71/71), followed by  2nd Term Grad Student Zaccheus Spann T37th  with a score of 225 (72/74/79), followed by Sophomore Brady Wood 58th with a score of 234 (70/72/83), followed by Sophomore Joseph Boone 60th with a score of 235 (81/74/80), and followed by Sophomore Benjamin Nicholson 65th with a score of 240.

"While this was a strong field of 60 golfers representing 12 schools. This was the second tournament of our Fall Season, and the team broke 300 during the second tournament round. Our goal has always been to break 300 and our tournament stroke average was 75.3.  Coach Bowers and I could not be prouder of their performance during the Eighth Annual Griffin Invitational. We were honored to have been invited to play in The Eighth Annual Griffin Invitational," we still have work to do in preparation for our next tournament at The Bluefield State University Men's Invitational September 30th and October 1st , 2024 says Coach Coble.
