The Virginia Union University golf team competed in the inaugural SAS Championship HBCU Invitational Golf Tournament on October 12th & 13th, 2024. The SAS Championship HBCU Invitational was contested at Prestonwood Country Club in Raleigh, North Carolina. Each October Prestonwood has the privilege of hosting the SAS Championship, an official PGA TOUR Champions Tour event.

The Virginia Union University golf team competed in the inaugural SAS Championship HBCU Invitational Golf Tournament on October 12th & 13th, 2024. The SAS Championship HBCU Invitational was contested at Prestonwood Country Club in Raleigh, North Carolina. Each October Prestonwood has the privilege of hosting the SAS Championship, an official PGA TOUR Champions Tour event.

The SAS Championship HBCU Invitational was contested on the Fairway Golf Course a Par 70, 6284 yards layout that features Bermuda Greens and Bent Grass Fairways. A tree-lined course that presented a significant challenge for all the collegiate golfers. There was a total of fifteen teams competing in the SAS Championship HBCU Invitational. Five Men's D1 Team, five DI Women's Teams and five D2 Men's Teams.

VUU Team scoring was led by Sophomore Joseph Boone finished Tied 1st with a score of 215 (70/71/74), followed by Zaccheus Spann, 2nd  Year Grad Student, finished 11th with a score of 225 (77/75/73), Ben Nicholson, Sophomore finished 14th , with a score of 231, (69/83/79), followed by  Brady Wood, Sophomore, finished 18th    with a score of 239 (83/82/74), and 1st Year Grad Student, Joseph Graham who finished 25th with a score of 160 (76/No Card/84.  Boone had an excellent tournament finishing Tied for 1st of 25 D2 golfers.  He lost on the second playoff to a birdie to finish second.  Sophomore Ben Nicholson had the tournament low round 69 during Round 1.

 "This was our second invitation to play in the SAS HBCU Championship, again another great experience for the VUU Golf Team," said VUU Head Golf Coach E. Lee Coble.  "With the help of Assistant Coach Sean Bowers and now Grad Assistant Travon Willis, the team responded, and we captured third place. We are immensely proud of the way the guys persevered to the end. We continue to be immensely proud of the accomplishments of our VUU Golf Team on and off the golf course".
