The Virginia Union University Golf Team competed in the 2023 CIAA Northern Division Golf Tournament April 3rd & 4, 2023. The Northern Division Tournament was contested at The Mill Creek Golf Club in Mebane, North Carolina. Mill Creek Golf Club is situated on 650 acres in Mebane, North Carolina. The course has been carved out of land which seems to have been long destined to become a golf course. Designed by Robbins/Lussier/Koch it was completed in 1995 and features Ultradwarf Bermuda greens, tees, and fairways. The 6, 992 yard 18-hole layout was a very good test for all the golfers competing.

There were nine teams competing in the Northern Division Golf Tournament, including individuals competing from Virginia State University and Livingstone College. VUU finished second and team scoring was led by 2nd Semester Grad Student Alkin Barkley who finished T-5th with a score of 219 (73/77/69), followed by Hayden Garcia, 2nd Semester Grad Student who finished 8th with a score of 220 (75/71/74), followed by 1st Semester Grad Student Travon Willis finished 11th, with a score of 227 (85/70/72), followed by Senior Zaccheus Spann finished T12th with a score of 230 (80/73/77) and Ahmad Reedus 2nd Semester Grad Student finished T17th with a score of 234 (75/80/79). Alkin Barkley made the "All-Tournament Team".

"This was a good CIAA tournament competition prior to the CIAA Championship in a couple of weeks. We got off to a good start on the first day and finished strong Round 2 & Round 3. The team's scoring average was 73.8. They fought hard to the end, " said VUU Head Golf Coach E. Lee Coble. "With the help of Assistant Coach Sean Bowers, the team continues to improve. We continue to be proud of the way the guys competed to the end. We continue to be immensely proud of their accomplishments on and off the golf course".
