The Virginia Union University Golf Team competed in the 2023 NCAA DII Preview Tournament. The tournament was contested at The Iron Valley Golf Club. The golf course opened in the Spring of 2000 and lies on a large 352-acre tract of land that has historical significance dating back to the late 1700′s. Iron Valley Golf Club was designed by the world-renowned architect, P.B. Dye, and offers natural terrain, expansive vistas, and extreme elevation changes. Iron Valley Golf Club provides a genuinely great test of golf. Iron Valley Golf Course is a Par 72, 7026 yards layout and is Ranked as the #8 best course you can play in Pennsylvania by Golf Magazine and proved to be a very stern test for all the teams that participated.
 
There were twenty-five teams competing. The top three teams from the CIAA competed. Fayetteville State University, Livingstone College, and Virginia Union University. VUU finished tied for 10th Place with a thirty-six-hole score of 611. Team scoring was led by 2nd Semester Grad Student Alkin Barkley who finished 13th with a score of 149 (79/70), followed by  Travon Willis, 1st Semester Grad Student who finished T24th  with a score of 151 (78/73),  followed by Hayden Garcia 2nd Semester Grad Student who finished T47th with a score of 155 (74/81), followed by Senior Zaccheus Spann who finished T79th with a score of 160 (80/80),  followed by 2nd Semester Grad Student Ahmad Reedus who finished T94th with a score of 162 (76/86). 

"This tournament was scheduled as a Preview Event to give the teams that would be selected to play in the 2023 NCAA DII Regional Championship a chance to see the course and continue to meet Regional requirements. The team's scoring average was 76.3.  They fought hard to the end, " said VUU Head Golf Coach E. Lee Coble.  "With the help of Assistant Coach Sean Bowers, the team continues to improve. We continue to be proud of the way the guys competed to the end. Our next stop will be the 2023 NCAA Regional Championship. We continue to be immensely proud of their accomplishments on and off the golf course. Our next stop should be the 2023 NCAA Regional Championship."
