The Virginia Union University Golf Team competed in the 2023 CIAA Golf Championship April 17th & 18th, 2023. The CIAA Championship was contested at The Jacksonville Country Club in Jacksonville, North Carolina. The Jacksonville Country Club offers an 18-hole golf course situated among Carolina Pines and Dogwood lined fairways. The course is perfectly suited for both the serious and recreational golfer. The 6, 655 yard 18-hole layout was a good test for all the golfers competing.

There were seven teams competing in the 2023 CIAA Championship. VUU finished second and team scoring was led by 2nd Semester Grad Student Alkin Barkley who finished 2nd with a score of 216 (71/71/74), followed by  Ahmad Reedus, 2nd Semester Grad Student who finished T6th  with a score of 223 (75/75/73),  followed by Senior Zaccheus Spann who finished 8th with a score of 224 (77/74/73),  followed by Hayden Garcia 2nd Semester Grad Student who finished T9th  with a score of 225 (78/71/76), followed by 1st Semester Grad Student Travon Willis who finished T11th  with a score of 226 (80/71/75).  Alkin Barkley made the "All-Tournament Team." Alkin Barkley, Hayden Garcia, Ahmad Reedus and Travon Willis all made the All-CIAA Tournament Team.

"This was our final CIAA competition for 2023. We got off to a good start on the first day and finished strong Round 2 & Round 3. The team's scoring average was 74.2.  They fought hard to the end, " said VUU Head Golf Coach E. Lee Coble.  "With the help of Assistant Coach Sean Bowers, the team continues to improve. We continue to be proud of the way the guys competed to the end. We continue to be immensely proud of their accomplishments on and off the golf course. Our next stop should be the 2023 NCAA Regional Championship".
