The Burning Sands Alumni Football Foundation donated $60,000 during halftime of the Virginia University at Lynchburg-Virginia Union University football game on Thursday, September 1.
In November 2021, "The Burning Sands Alumni Football Foundation Endowed Scholarship Fund" for VUU football players became official, making Burning Sands the first sports organization of the university to create an endowment. The $60,000 represents the initial payment from the perpetual fund to the university.
The Burning Sands Alumni Football Foundation is a nonprofit organization with the primary mission of raising money to support various educational and athletic initiatives of the Virginia Union University football program. Membership consists of men and women who are either former VUU football players, coaches, cheerleaders, alumni, or just loyal supporters of the university. Initially founded in 2011 as "Club," the organization rebranded in March 2021 to "Foundation." Burning Sands sells merchandise and apparel and hosts various fundraisers throughout the year to ensure that there are adequate funds to support its mission.
