Panthers Surge to Nation's Top Spot in Two Polls

Virginia Union University's football team, fresh off a 45-40 win over the nation's previous #2 team, Valdosta State University, has been named the top team in the nation on two national polls.

The Panthers captured the top spot on the HBCU Gameday poll and then was named the nation's #1 team on the HBCU-Pro Sports Media Association Poll.

"I'm extremely proud of everyone involved in the program," said VUU Head Football Coach Dr. Alvin Parker.  "To be ranked and considered #1 by many is certainly a huge accomplishment. We still know we have a lot of work ahead and the players are keeping their eyes on the big prize."

Virginia Union is currently 2-0 on the season and will face Livingstone College at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, at Willie Lanier Field at Hovey Stadium.  The game will be VUU Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night.
