The 2022 Virginia State University Spring Golf Classic Tournament was contested at the Dogwood Trace Golf Club Monday, March 24th, 2022, in Petersburg, Virginia. Dogwood Trace Golf Course is a Par 72, 6, 605 yards layout that again proved to be a great test with rain and winds during the 27 holes match. There were three schools competing. Saint Augustine's University, Virginia State University and Virginia Union University. Due to the inclement weather and golf course conditions the 36-hole tournament was reduced to a 27-hole contest. Round One consisted of 18-hole and Round Two consisted of the Front Nine-Holes.
VUU led all team scoring team score of 446 (301/145) and was the tournament winner. VUU team scoring was led by Junior-
Zaccheus Spann, who was also the tournament Medalist with a score of 108 (71/37), followed by sophomore
Joseph Graham with a score of 111 (75/36), senior Hayden Garica 112 (76/36), senior
Travon Willis 117 (79/38) and senior
Alkin Barkley 119 (83/36). Zaccheus, Joseph, and Hayden were the top three finishers in the tournament.
"I am very proud of the way the team stayed focused and persevered during the terrible playing conditions," said VUU Head Golf Coach
E. Lee Coble. "The team finished with a team scoring average of 75.25. This is a process of continued improvement as we get ready for our 2022 Northern Division Championship Monday, April 4th, 2022. I continue to be proud of this team along with the assistance of our Assistant Coach
Sean Bowers."
