Virginia Union University's
Ashley Sharpe captured High Game honors and was named CIAA Newcomer of the Weekend at the CIAA Event #1, held November 5-7 at Bowie, Md.
Â
Sharpe, a freshman from New York, N.Y., who had never bowled in NCAA competition before, bowled a high game of 216 and had an average of 153 pins per game this past weekend.
Â
"Ashley was actually recruited as a softball player, but we found out that she was also a bowler" VUU Head bowling coach
James Washington said. "She had a tremendous weekend. She started right out of the blocks with a game of 216, and that was the highest game of any bowler the entire weekend. She's a very talented young lady.
Â
VUU, as a team, swept their four matches against Virginia State University and ended up going 4-4 during the weekend.
Â
Virginia Union will be off until January when the Lady Panthers will travel to Salisbury, N.C., to compete in the CIAA Event #2.
