Box Score Virginia Union University's
Demarius Pitts led the Panthers with 15 points as VUU downed West Virginia State University 75-49 on the first day of the Chris Paul HBCU Classic on Monday, November 22, in Uncasville, Conn.
VUU's
Jordan Peebles added 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while teammate
Devon Sims scored 13 points in the win.
"I thought we played a great game defensively today," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "We got off to a good start in the first half. After we got up 14 points, we kind of let up. You've got to take your hat off to West Virginia State because they're an explosive scoring team. They've been averaging 90 points per game, so our main thing today was that we had to defend against them."
Virginia Union's Tahj Hardin rounded out the double-figure scoring with 11 points while
Raemaad Wright led the Panthers on the boards with 13 rebounds.
Virginia Union will now play Winston-Salem State University in the championship game of the Chris Paul HBCU Classic at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, in Uncasville, Conn.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
