The University of Maryland Eastern "Collegiate Golf Challenge" was played at The Ocean City Golf and Yacht Club's Newport Bay and Seaside Golf Courses Tuesday and Wednesday, October 26-27, 2021. Newport Bay is a par 72, 6, 581 yard and Seaside is a Par 73, 6,713-yard layout. The tournament was contested over 54 holes.
VUU team scoring was led by Senior,
Hayden Garcia tied for 2nd with a score of 218 (73/70/69), followed by Senior
Alkin Barkley finished 4th with a score of 222 (75/73/73), Senior
Ahmad Reedus tied for 12th with a score of 234 (77/81/76), Junior
Zaccheus Spann also tied for 12th with a score of 234 (78/76/80) and followed by Senior
Travon Willis who finished 22nd with a score of 239 (74/89/76).
In addition to finishing second two members of the team that finished in the Top Five received Medalist Honors. Hayden was #2 and
Alkin Barkley was #4.
"This was a great finish to our Fall Golf Season. We had a lot of firsts by competing in three Division 1 Golf Tournaments. We have always had a goal of breaking 300 during competition and we broke that barrier twice during this Fall Season. We will return to Golf in the Spring with a renewed confidence and a promising Spring Season ahead of us. It's exciting to have guys back and playing well again. The building will continue during the off-season. See you in the Spring 2022.", says Coach Coble.
