The Griffin Invitational was played at The Country Club of Petersburg in Petersburg, VA, on Monday and Tuesday, September 30-October 1, 2019. The Invitational was contested over 54 holes and in honor of Griffin Clark. 
 
On July 4th, 2016, Griffin Clark passed away in a car accident just mile away from his home in Virginia. He was 21-years-old and at what seemed to be the peak of his life, only to have it cut short. Clark was a redshirt sophomore on the men's golf team where he helped the Saint Leo Lions win their first ever-national championship.   Clark's winning matchup against Chico State's Kelley Sullivan sealed the victory for Saint Leo University its first national title in any sport.
 
VUU team scoring was led by sophomore Travon Willis, who tied for 35th with a score of 225 (78/74/73), followed by sophomore Alkin Barkley, who tied for 40th with a score of 228 (75/75/78).  First-time transfer Hayden Garcia tied for 44th with a score of 229 (78/73/78), Another first-time transfer, Ahmad Reedus, tied for 48th with a score of 231 (77/78/76) and followed by freshman Zaccheus Spann, who tied for 58th with a score of 237 (80/78/79).
  
"While this was our sternest test thus far this Fall Season, we were honored to have been invited to play in The Third Annual Griffin Invitational," said VUU Head Golf Coach E. Lee Coble.  "As you know we play five and count the four lowest scores, each player shot in the 70's in two of the three rounds we played."
