Smith Shines at Doc Jopson Invitational

The Virginia Union University women's track and field team competed Friday, April 13, at Bridgewater College's Doc Jopson Invitational. Teams competing Bridgewater, Virginia Wesleyan, Mary Washington Southern Virginia, Eastern Mennonite.

The Lady Panthers blasted through 10 Top-10 finishes and multiple Personal Record's to have an outstanding day.
 
Continuing her CIAA #5 ranking was freshman Hananiah Smith, who placed fifth overall in the triple jump. Smith additionally placed fifth in the long jump as well with a mark of 4.67 meters. 

Taking second place in a great 3,000 meter race was freshman Jepngetich Sheila, who ran 12:37.32, just missing her lifetime best.

Also taking second was senior Timicia Brunson in the 100 meter dash when she ran a lifetime best of 12.59 to now rank #8 in the CIAA.

Placing fourth was senior Imani Jackson, and eighth was freshman Techera Carey, marking her first time in collegiate finals. In the 200 meter dash Jackson placed 3rd in a time of 26.25, and Brunson placed 4th with a time of 26.40.

Also making a Top-10 finish was Nigeria Jenkins in the long jump at 4.45 meters, and Carey placing eighth at 4.39 meters.
 
The Lady Panthers return to action on April 21 at the VSU Invitational, to be held at Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA.
