Box Score Virginia Union University's Todd Hughes scored a season-high 26 points as VUU defeated Winston-Salem State University 86-72 in the opening round of the CIAA Tournament on Wednesday, February 28, in Charlotte, N.C.

Hughes eight of 13 shots from the field, including five three-pointers as the Panthers surged into the CIAA Tournament quarterfinals against Shaw at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, in the Spectrum Center in Charlotte.

VUU's Kory Cooley scored 16 points while Andre Walker recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

As a team, Virginia Union grabbed 35 rebounds and had five blocks.

The win also raised VUU's record to 15-14 on the season while Winston-Salem State fell to 5-22.
