Box Score Virginia Union University's John Mitchell had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Panthers to a 71-59 win over Johnson C. Smith University in Historic Barco-Stevens Hall on Wednesday, February 1, in Richmond, Va.

The win was the 18th for the Panthers, the most for a VUU men's team since the 2009-10 team won 19 games.

The game also marked the third time this season Mitchell recorded a double-double with points and rebounds.

Virginia Union's Ray Anderson, who was celebrating his 23rd birthday, scored 16 points in the win.

VUU's Tavon Mealy added 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

The win raised Virginia Union's record to 18-5 overall and 10-1 in the CIAA.  Johnson C. Smith fell to 8-13 overall and 4-7 in the CIAA.

VUU now faces arch-rival Virginia State University at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
