Box Score Virginia Union University's Ray Anderson had 14 points, but Virginia State University snapped the Panthers' five-game winning streak by winning the 2017 Freedom Classic 74-59 on Sunday, January 15, in the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Va.

VUU's James Paige scored 12 points while teammate John Mitchell had six rebounds and two blocks.

"We got off to a good start early on," said VUU Head Coach Jay Butler.  "But Virginia State is a very good basketball team and they never got rattled.  They made a lot of plays early on and we missed a lot of free throws."

VUU's Marcus Hoosier also scored 10 points for the Panthers.

The loss dropped VUU to 13-5 overall and 5-1 in the CIAA.  Virginia State is now 13-3 overall and 6-0 in CIAA play.

Virginia Union now travels to Bowie, Md., to face Bowie State University at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18.
