Lou Anderson Awarded Lifetime Achievement Award

Virginia Union University's head football coach Mark James and assistant coach Aaron Taylor awarded former Virginia State University football coach Lou Anderson the Lifetime Achievement Award during the 2nd Annual Legends Clinic, held on Saturday, April 11, in the Henderson Center on the VUU campus in Richmond, Va.

Anderson, who was inducted into the CIAA Hall of Fame in 2013,  coached the Trojans for eleven seasons (1990-2001) ultimately revolutionizing the football atmosphere at Virginia State University. In 1993, Anderson finished the season with an impressive 10-1 record, after two previous 3-7 seasons. Coach Anderson captured two CIAA titles (1995 and 1996) and has been awarded the CIAA Coach of the Year twice (1993 and 1995).

Attendees also heard from former head coach John Blake.  Blake owns three championship rings, including one in college and two in the NFL; and is considered by many to be the nation's top college football recruiter. He served as the head football coach at the University of Oklahoma from 1996 to 1998. Most recently, Blake was the defensive line coach at theUniversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a position he held from 2007 until 2010.

Virginia Union University Athletic Director opened the clinic, which was attended by over 50 Richmond-area high school and college coaches.  Every VUU assistant football coach took part, with seminars on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.
