Moore Scores Career-High 17 at Lincoln

Box Score Virginia Union University's Deonte Moore scored a career-high 17 points, but Lincoln University defeated the Panthers 74-67 on Saturday, February 14, in Lincoln University, Pa.

Moore's previous high at VUU was 11 points against Shaw University on November 24, 2014.

VUU's Avery Jirmnson scored 16 points and had five steals while teammate Ray Anderson had 13 points in the game.

The game was tightly-fought throughout, with the lead changing six times.

VUU trailed by just two at halftime, 36-34, but Lincoln came out on fire by scoring the first nine points of the second half to take an 11-point lead (45-34) at the 16:35 mark.

Virginia Union fought back, however.  Anderson hit a pair of free-throws to pull the Panthers to within 51-47 with 10:37 left to play.

The second half was marked by surges by both team.  After VUU pulled to within four, Lincoln went up by nine points twice before Virginia Union pulled to within one (60-59) on a steal and a layup by Jirmnson with 4:56 left to play.

That would be as close as VUU would get, though, as Lincoln scored the next six points.  The Lions secured the wins on free throws.

The loss dropped Virginia Union to 8-16 overall and 4-10 in the CIAA.  Lincoln is now 15-9 overall and 9-5 in the CIAA.

The Panthers return home to Barco-Stevens Hall for their final home game of the 2014-15 season when they meet Elizabeth City State University at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
