Virginia Union University is ranked #1 in total defense in the latest NCAA statistical rankings, released by the NCAA on Sunday, October 4.
VUU is allowing only 160.6 yards in offense by opponents this season, including only 58 yards by Johnson C. Smith University on September 26.
The Panther defense is even more impressive against opponents' ground game. Virginia Union is also leading the nation in rushing defense, giving up a mere 46.6 yards per game. VUU held both Johnson C. Smith and Shaw University to -25 yards on the ground.
Virginia Union is 4-1 overall this season and 2-0 in the CIAA. The Panthers travel to Lincoln University, Pa., to face Lincoln (Pa.) at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10.
