D'Andre Bullard scored a career-best 27 points to lead the Panthers to their second straight overtime win, beating Elizabeth City State University 88-79 on Wednesday, January 28, in Elizabeth City, N.C.
Bullard also had a team-high nine rebounds to lead the Panthers on the boards.
VUU's
Avery Jirmnson scored 23 points while teammate
Ray Anderson added 18 points.
Virginia Union's
Karo Adjekughele scored 10 points in the win.
With VUU trailing 75-73 with 20 seconds left in regulation, Anderson drove the baseline for a layup to tie the score.
Elizabeth City State had a last-chance attempt for a win bounce off the rim as the game ended at 75-75 in regulation.
VUU scored the first eight points in overtime, sparked by a steal and layup by freshman
Robert Valentine, then with a layup by
Colton Lewis.
The win raised the Panthers' record to 6-14 overall and 2-8 in the CIAA. Â VUU currently sits in fourth place in the Northern Division of the CIAA.
Elizabeth City State dropped to 9-14 overall and 2-8 in the CIAA.
Virginia Union now returns home to face Chowan University at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
