Box Score Virginia Union University's
Ray Anderson hit a layup with three seconds left in overtime to give the Panthers a 75-73 win over Lincoln University on Saturday, January 24, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
Anderson led all scorers with 22 points. Â Anderson hit nine of 17 shots from the field.
VUU had trailed Lincoln 64-62 with less than a minute left in regulation, but Virginia Union's
D'Andre Bullard hit a jumper with 39 seconds left to tie the game.
Union started fast in the overtime, surging ahead 67-64 on free throws by
Colton Lewis and
Karo Adjekughele.
Lincoln struck back, eventually taking a 73-70 lead with 51 seconds left in the overtime, but Bullard drilled a three-pointer to tie the game 73-73 with 43 seconds left.
Lewis then grabbed a missed Lincoln shot and fed Anderson who was streaking down the court for the win.
VUU's
Avery Jirmnson scored 18 points while Adjekughele had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The win raised Virginia Union's record to 5-14 overall and 1-8 in the CIAA. Â Lincoln dropped to 12-7 overall and 6-3 in CIAA play.
Virginia Union now travels to Elizabeth City, N.C., to face Elizabeth City State University at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28.
