Box Score Virginia Union University's D'Andre Bullard scored a team-high nine points, but Virginia State University defeated VUU 64-45 in the 2015 Freedom Classic on Sunday, January 18 in the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Va.

VUU's Colton Lewis and DaShawn Barton had seven points apiece in the game while Lewis and Bullard had six rebounds to lead the Panthers on the boards.

"The kids are battling and playing hard," said head coach Tony Sheals.  "They're doing what I ask them to do.  Nobody could have predicted what has happened to this team, but I have a bunch of fighters, and sometimes a season like this builds a lot of character.  We know what we need to do and keep on plugging away."

The loss dropped VUU to 4-13 overall and 0-7 in the CIAA.  Virginia State is now 11-5 overall and 5-2 in CIAA play.

Virginia Union now travels to Bowie, Md., to face Bowie State University at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21.
