Virginia Union University's Omar Briggs scored 22 points, but Chowan University defeated VUU 89-77 on Saturday, February 22, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.

The game was the final regular-season game for both teams.  The loss also means that Virginia Union will enter the 2014 CIAA Tournament as the sixth seed in the CIAA Northern Division.  The Panthers will play the fifth-seeded team from the Southern Division on Tuesday, February 25, at either 7:20 or 9:40 p.m. in the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, N.C.

Before the game, VUU saluted seniors Chadwick Church, Justin Ihkide and Omar Briggs.

VUU's Avery Jimnson scored 14 points while teammate Ray Anderson added 12 points in the game.

Virginia Union's Justin Ihkide led the team with six rebounds.

The loss dropped VUU to 6-19 overall and 5-11 in the CIAA.  Chowan is now 12-14 overall and 6-10 in the CIAA.
