Box Score Virginia Union University's Avery Jirmnson scored 22 points while teammate Omar Briggs recorded his fifth straight double-double as VUU downed Chowan University 81-76 on Saturday, February 1, in Murfreesboro, N.C.

Briggs scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the win.

Virginia Union's freshman sensation, Ray Anderson, scored 14 points while Ken Pankey added 12 points.

As a team, VUU shot 51.9% from the field while hauling down 41 rebounds.

The win raised Virginia Union's record to 6-14 overall and 5-6 in CIAA play.  Chowan dropped to 6-12 overall and 2-8 in the CIAA play.

The win also moves the Panthers into a tie for second-place in the Northern Division of the CIAA.  Both Lincoln University and VUU have 3-2 divisional records.

VUU now returns to Historic Barco-Stevens Hall to face Elizabeth City State University at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4, in Richmond, Va.
