Virginia Union University's Avery Jirmnson scored 20 points, but Shaw University defeated the Panthers 78-68 on Thursday, January 9, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.

VUU's Ken Pankey added 13 points while Omar Briggs scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the game.

Virginia Union's Gerard Dean-McBride also scored 10 points in the game.

The loss dropped VUU to 3-11 overall and 2-3 in the CIAA.  Shaw is now 6-8 overall and 4-0 in CIAA play.

Virginia Union now faces Fayetteville State University at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
