Box Score Virginia Union University's Avery Jirmnson scored 19 points to lead VUU to an 81-69 win over Virginia State University in the 2013 Big Apple Classic, held in Brooklyn, NY, on Sunday, December 15, 2013.

Jirmnson was 5-for-7 from the field and 11-of-15 on free throws.  

VUU's Ken Pankey scored 15 points while Omar Briggs added 16 points in the win.  Pankey hit 5-of-11 shots from the field including five three-pointers.

Virginia Union's Te'Quan Alers led the Panthers with seven rebounds.

The win raised VUU's record to 2-7 overall and 1-0 in CIAA play.  VSU is now 7-3 overall and 0-1 in the CIAA.

Virginia Union now travels to Fayetteville, N.C., to face Fayetteville State University in a non-conference match-up at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17.
