Virginia Union University honored the 1973 football team during the Hall of Fame Football Game on Saturday, September 29, in Historic Hovey Field.

The 1973 team won VUU's first CIAA title in 50 years and finished 9-1 on the season.  The 1973 Panthers gave up just one touchdown over the last seven games of the season.

In honor of the 40th anniversary of the 1973 team, VUU Athletics discovered the 1973 CIAA Championship Trophy and had it restored at Bunkie Trinite Trophies in Richmond, Va.  The trophy is now on display in the VUU Athletic Office in the Belgiium Building.
