Box Score Virginia Union University's Calvin Brown scored 13 points, but Virginia State University defeated VUU 70-65 in the 2013 Freedom Classic, held on Sunday, January 20, in the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Va.

The win was the first time VSU has defeated Virginia Union in 10 years, a span of 23 games.

VUU's Juan Wilson also scored 12 points for the Panthers while Cordero Holt had six rebounds.

Virginia State was led by Mike Bynum's 18 points.

The loss dropped VUU to 3-11 overall and 1-6 in CIAA play.  Virginia State is now 8-8 overall and 3-4 in the CIAA.

Virginia Union now travels to Bowie, Md., to face Bowie State University on Wednesday, January 23, at 7:30 p.m.
