Judge Thomas Named to VUU Hall of Fame

Judge Thomas, who played football at Virginia Union University from 1975-78, has been named to the VUU Athletic Hall of Fame, it was announced on Tuesday, September 11.

Thomas will be enshrined in the Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 6.

Thomas was the first African-American football player to earn the Jim Brown Award as the Most Valuable Player in the 1978 All-American Bowl, played in New Orleans, La., in December, 1978.

Thomas finished his stellar career as the Panthers' all-time leading rusher in school history, having garnered 3,130 yards during his four years.  Thomas is currently third among the all-time leading rushers at VUU, behind Andre Braxton (5,008 yards) and Bobby Phillips (4,086 yards).

Thomas is also second among the all-time leaders in rushing touchdowns with 33 TDs and second among the all-time scoring leaders with 276 points.

Thomas' 1,116 rushing yards in 1976 is still the sixth-most for a VUU player in a single season.

Thomas was All-CIAA for three consecutive years and received All-American honors three times.

After completing college in 1979, Thomas was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League.  He played in the Canadian Football League in the early 1980s.
