Kimar Johnson scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, but King College beat VUU 71-69 in the Panthers' season-opener in Barco-Stevens Hall on Saturday, November 10, in Richmond, Va.
VUU's
Damion Harris led the Panthers in scoring with 17 points.
VUU had battled back from a first-half deficit of 15 points to pull within 36-35 at halftime. The Panthers had led by as much as seven points in the second half before King unleashed a barrage of three-pointers.
VUU out-rebounded King 37-27 and also out-shot the Tornado 50.0% to 43.9%, but King hit 11 of 29 three pointers compared to VUU's two.
The loss drops VUU to 0-1 on the season while King is now 1-0.
VUU now travels to Erie, Pa., to play in the Gary Miller Classic, facing Daemon College on Friday, November 23, at 5:30 p.m.
