Virginia Union University's Braxton Byerson scored a career-high 36 points as VUU downed Fayetteville State University 78-66 in Fayetteville, N.C., on January 20.

Byerson hit 13 of 21 shots from the field, including eight three-pointers, in the win.

VUU's Wayne Ford scored 11 points while teammate Branden McDonald added 10 points.

Byerson also had 16 rebounds to go with his 36 points.

Byerson's 36 points are the most for a VUU player in a single game since William "Tell" Davis scored 36 points against Johnson C. Smith University on January 2, 1999.

Fayetteville State was paced by Devin Thompson's 16 points.

The win raised VUU's record to 7-5 overall and 5-2 in the CIAA while FSU dropped to 7-7 overall and 3-3 in CIAA play.

VUU now travels to Lawrenceville, Va., to meet Saint Paul's College on January 24.  The game will be streamed live at www.vuusports.com.
