VUU Downs VSU for 20th Straight Time

Virginia Union University's Braxton Byerson tied his career-high with 26 points as VUU downed Virginia State University 66-46 on December 4 in Madison Square Garden in the 2010 Big Apple Classic in New York, N.Y.

The win was the 20th straight time that VUU has defeated Virginia State.

Braxton hit eight of 15 shots from the field, including five three-pointers.

VUU's Jamaal Blalock came off the bench to score 10 points in the win while Branden McDonald pulled down eight rebounds.

The win raised VUU's record to 2-0 on the season.

Justin Bess led VSU with eight points as no Trojan reached double-figures.

The 46 points were the lowest allowed by a VUU team since Virginia Union downed Elizabeth City State University 56-43 on February 1, 2010.

The 46 points were also the lowest point total for a Trojan team against VUU since Virginia Union defeated Virginia State 71-43 on January 15, 2006.

VSU drops to 1-4 on the season.

Virginia Union now travels to Aiken, S.C., to take part in the 2010 Conoco Phillips South Carolina-Aiken Pre-Holiday Classic on December 16 and 17.  The Panthers play Mount Olive College on December 16 and then play USC-Aiken on December 17.
