Virginia Union University's Braxton Byerson scored a team-high 20 points while Greg Redford recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds to lead VUU to a 73-66 win over California (Pa.) on November 27 in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.

The game was the 2010-11 season opener for the Panthers.

VUU's Juan Wilson scored 11 points and Branden McDonald dished out 11 assists in the win.

VUU is now 1-0 on the season while California (Pa.) dropped to 1-1 on the year.

Virginia Union now travels to New York, N.Y., to face Virginia State University on December 4 in the Big Apple Classic.
