Erie, PA – Virginia Union University had their season come to an end with a 69-63 loss to Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) (22-7) Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Atlantic Region tournament inside Hammermill Hall on the campus of Gannon University.  VUU ends the 2008-09 season with a 21-7 overall record.

All-CIAA senior forward Gregg Thondique led VUU with a game-high 18 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Senior forward Lemoyne Williams also finished in double figures with 14 points and five rebounds.

Indiana (PA) had four student-athletes score double figures in the contest. Gerald Brooks led with a double-double 20 points and 11 rebounds. Julian Sanders added 14 while Sean Christiansen had 11 points and Darryl Webb finishes with 10 points.

Looking ahead to next season, the Panthers will lose seniors Lemoyne Williams, Jason Wansley and All-CIAA Gregg Thondique.  Key returners for the Panthers are CIAA All-Conference student-athletes Brandon and Braxton Byerson.
