Panthers Stopped by Arkansas-Monticello, 68-56

CLEVELAND, MS –
The Virginia Union University men's basketball dropped their first game in the 13th Annual State Farm Classic, losing to the University of Arkansas at Monticello, 68-56. The Classic is being hosted by Delta State University in Cleveland, MS. The loss drops the Panthers to 1-2 this season. 
 
VUU's Gregg Thondiquescored the first basket of the contest, giving the Panthers an early 2-0 advantage, which would be the Panthers only lead of the game. UAM went on to score 9 unanswered points and would keep the lead for the rest of the contest. 
 
Braxton Byerson led the Panthers' efforts with a team-high 17 points on 7 of 13 shooting, including three 3-pointers. Brandon Byersonadded 13 points in the contest. Gregg Thondique had an all-around performance, recording the only double-double of the contest with 11 points and 11 rebounds. 
 
The Boll Weevils were anchored by Raymond Wright who scored a game-high 18 points, accompanied by a team-high 7 rebounds. Deron Brown and Bernard Seymour also scored in double figures for UAM adding 16 points and 14 points respectively.
