The Virginia Union University volleyball team won three of four matches at the Black Excellence Volleyball Classic, held September 4-5 at Albany State University in Albany, Ga.

The Lady Panthers opened the tournament Friday with a 3-1 victory over Benedict College before falling to host Albany State University 3-0.

VUU bounced back Saturday, defeating Allen University 3-1 and Savannah State University 3-1 to finish the weekend with three victories.

"We came into the Black Excellence Classic with only one game under our belt, and we are still finding our footing as a team," said VUU Head Volleyball Coach Anetra Sims. "This weekend, our girls played with confidence, competed together, and truly began to gel as a unit. I'm extremely proud of the way they came together, trusted one another, and finished on top. This is a great start, and we're looking forward to continuing to build!"

The Lady Panthers are now 3-2 on the season.

Virginia Union returns to action Saturday, September 12, when the Lady Panthers travel to Glenville, W.Va., to compete in a tri-match against Wilberforce University and host Glenville State University.
