Competing among some of the most respected programs in the region, VUU Cheer was awarded Most Valuable Collegiate Cheerleading Team, rising above fellow nominees including Livingston College, VCU, ODU, and UNCC. This distinguished honor recognizes excellence in athletic performance, innovation, team culture, and impact within the cheerleading community.
In addition to the team's top honor, Ty'Quan James was individually recognized with Most Valuable Cheerleader and the highly coveted People's Choice Award, earning admiration from both judges and supporters for outstanding talent, leadership, and presence.
These awards reflect the dedication, discipline, and continued excellence of the VUU Cheer Program, which has become a respected force in stomp and shake cheerleading.
Coach Johnson reflected on the achievement, stating:
"I am proud to see the legacy that Ms. Briggs created flourish and to see not only the program be recognized, but our kids be recognized for the continued hard work they put in as athletes. This goes to show we are one of the top programs in the stomp and shake community."
The recognition also serves as a tribute to the foundation laid by Ms. Briggs, whose vision and leadership helped shape the program's culture of excellence. Under continued leadership and with a talented roster of student-athletes, VUU Cheer continues to elevate the university's presence on and off the mat.
This milestone marks another significant chapter in VUU Cheer's growing legacy and reinforces the program's commitment to representing Virginia Union University with pride, passion, and championship-level performance.
