Charlotte, NC – July 6, 2024 – The Virginia Union University (VUU) Cheerleaders have once again made history by winning an unprecedented six awards at the prestigious CheerSzn Stomp & Shake Awards Gala. The VUU Cheer program continues to raise the bar and elevate the standard of excellence, walking away with accolades that recognize their hard work, dedication, and outstanding performances.
Makenzie Goodwin was honored with the 2024 Female of the Year award, highlighting her exceptional talent and contributions to the team. Tyquan James received the 2024 Male of the Year award, showcasing his remarkable skills and leadership. Coach Lee Stilley was awarded the 2024 Choreographer of the Year, a testament to his innovative routines and creative direction that have propelled the team to new heights.
Coach Danielle Johnson was recognized with the Superstar Award, and in a significant moment of the evening, she also received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her 17 years of dedicated service to the Stomp and Shake community. Her leadership and passion have been instrumental in shaping the VUU Cheer program into what it is today.
The team itself won the 2024 Best Performance of the Year for their electrifying and crowd-raising routine at the 2024 CIAA, further solidifying their reputation as a standard in the cheerleading world. The VUU Cheerleaders continue to uphold their motto, "Building a tradition and not resting on a legacy," by consistently pushing the boundaries and setting new standards of excellence.
